Repent before It Is Too Late: A Call to Reflect

14-05-2010

Question 34905

Do you have any advice for young men who are indulging in worldly pleasures and who forget to prepare and strive for the Day of Resurrection?

Summary of answer:

Repent before it is too late and before you regret not doing your duty towards Allah, for death comes suddenly. Allah may give respite, but no wrongdoer can escape His punishment, and He is Almighty and is the One Who wreaks vengeance.

Answer

Praise be to Allah.

The Urgency of Repentance: A Warning to the Negligent

Our advice to negligent youth is to repent before it is too late and before they come to regret not doing their duty towards Allah. For death may come suddenly; and Allah may give respite but no wrongdoer can escape His punishment, and He is Almighty and is the One Who wreaks vengeance.

The Consequences of Sin on The Body and Soul

Sin has an effect on the body and soul, and its consequences may come in this world, before the Hereafter. They should remember the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) concerning the seven whom Allah will shade from the heat of the Day of Resurrection in the shade of the Throne: “… and a young man who grew up worshipping Allah …” (Narrated by Al-Bukhari, 660 and Muslim, 1031)

They should feel shy before their Lord and should feel ashamed when the Ummah is being attacked by its enemies and needs young people to lead this Ummah out of its crisis and to fight the enemy in Jihad in obedience to Allah.

A Final Command from Allah: Fear the Day of Judgment

They should think of the last verse of the Quran to be revealed, and the last command that Allah gave to mankind (interpretation of the meaning):

{And fear the Day when you shall be brought back to Allah. Then every person shall be paid what he earned, and they shall not be dealt with unjustly.} [Al-Baqarah 2:281]

And Allah knows best. May Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon his family and companions.
