Displaying one’s beauty is not one of the things which invalidate wudu

10-09-2022

Question 103755

Does displaying one’s beauty (tabarruj) invalidate wudu?

Answer

Praise be to Allah.

What is required of the Muslim woman is to adhere to hijab as prescribed in Islamic teachings, and not show her adornment to non-mahram men. Allah, may He be exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning):

{… and not expose their adornment except that which [necessarily] appears thereof and to wrap [a portion of] their headcovers over their chests and not expose their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands' fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers, their brothers’ sons, their sisters’ sons, their women …} [an-Noor 24:31].

We have previously explained the evidence which indicates that women’s hijab is obligatory in the answers to questions no. 21134 , 21536 and 11774 .

If a woman displays her beauty and she has wudu, her wudu remains valid and it is not invalidated by that, but she has committed a haraam action by displaying her beauty. We have previously explained the things that do invalidate wudu in the answer to question no. 14321 .

And Allah knows best.
