Praise be to Allah.
I put this question to our shaykh, ‘Abd ar-Rahman al-Barrak (may Allah preserve him), and he said:
That should not be done, especially since some people write the first phrase in order to ward off the evil eye, so that the one who reads it will say it by way of blessing the house. There is no benefit in that, because they are not saying it of their own accord; rather they are merely reading what is written, and are not really remembering Allah. The second phrase does not mean anything; if he intends thereby to show humility, that would only benefit him if he kept it between himself and Allah, and there is no point in writing it for people to see.
Therefore it is not appropriate to write these words, because there is no benefit or meaning in that. The way to protect oneself and one’s property as prescribed in Islamic teachings is to recite the well-known adhkar and awrad that are prescribed for that purpose.
