Question

I work delivering goods, and I deal with a doctor. He used to send me parcels which I would receive and deliver to the customers. Then I found out that they are pills for stomach ulcers, but they use them in a wrong way, and there is a way in which the doctor prescribes them for the purpose of abortion. Am I sinning if I deliver the pills to the customers of this doctor? If I was sinning without knowing, do I have to offer expiation? When I found out that they are abortion pills, I spoke to the doctor and he said: They are stomach ulcer pills, but they are using them for the purpose of abortion, and they cannot obtain them unless I prescribe them. But I did not feel comfortable with what he said. Is there any blame on me?

Answer

Praise be to Allah.

It is permissible to work transporting and delivering goods, so long as it is not known that they are haram goods or that they are used for haram purposes.

Abortion is haram except in certain cases, before the soul is breathed into the foetus, when it must be done with the knowledge of the woman’s guardian or husband, by a trustworthy doctor.

Please see the answer to question no. 42321 .

As for selling abortion pills without paying attention to what we have noted above, that is haram and is usually a means of concealing immoral deeds.

If something is haram, it is not permissible to help anyone with it, whether that is by transporting goods or otherwise, because Allah, may He be exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning):

{And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and transgression. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is severe in penalty} [al-Ma’idah 5:2].

Based on that:

It is not permissible for you to deliver these parcels, if you know that they contain abortion pills. Whoever gives up something for the sake of Allah, Allah will compensate him with something better than it.

And Allah knows best.
