7 Things to avoid in ihram: 1- shaving the hair of the head; 2- using perfume; 3- sexual intercourse; 4- touching one’s wife with desire; 5- killing game; 6- wearing sewn garments by men; 7- wearing niqab by women.

Hajj includes the following actions: : 1- ihram; 2- reciting the Talbiyah; 3- performing tawaf; 4- performing sa`i; 5- shaving the head or cutting the hair; 6- going to Mina; 7- going to ‘Arafah; 8- going to Muzdalifah; 9- going back to Mina; 10- stoning the jamarat; 11- farewell tawaf.

One of the mistakes made in ihram is that some pilgrims, especially those who come by air, do not enter ihram from the miqat and wait until they arrive in Jeddah, even though they pass over the miqat.

Common mistakes by people when stoning the Jamarat:
1. Believing that collecting pebbles from other than Muzdalifah renders stoning invalid.
2. Washing the pebbles before using them, either for fear that someone may have urinated on them, or because believing that it is better to clean them.
3. Some people believe that they are actually stoning the devil himself.
4. Not making sure that the pebbles land in the pit around the Jamarat.
5. Believing that the pebbles must hit the pillar in the pit.
6. Some people delegate someone to stone on their behalf though they are able to do it.

Some of the mistake made in tawaf include: 1- Uttering the intention out loud; 2- Pushing and shoving too much when touching Black Stone; 3- Thinking touching the Black Stone is done for barakah; 4- Reciting a specific du’a in each circuit.

The mistakes made during farewell tawaf include: 1- Not making tawaf the last thing; 2- Staying in Makkah after the farewell tawaf; 3- Walking backwards when leaving Makkah; and 4- Turning to face the Ka’bah as if bidding farewell to it.

Key Mistakes Made in Muzdalifah during Hajj:

• -Rushing from `Arafah, causing accidents

• -Stopping before reaching Muzdalifah because of being very tired.

• -Praying Maghrib and `Isha’ on the way to Muzdalifah

• -Not praying Maghrib and `Isha’ even after reaching Muzdalifah

• -Praying Fajr before its time starts.

• -Leaving Muzdalifah before spending the minimum period of time

• -Staying up on the night of Muzdalifah praying Qiyam, reading Quran and reciting Dhikr.

• -Staying in Muzdalifah until the sun has risen

Exiting Ihram of Hajj, for both men and women, comes after stoning Jamrat Al-`Aqabah and shaving the head or cutting the hair for men, but women have no option but cutting the hair. Exiting Ihram of `Umrah, for both men and women, comes after finishing their Tawaf and Sa`i, and shaving the head or cutting the hair for men, but women have no option but cutting the hair and not shaving.

There is nothing wrong with delaying Sa`i after Tawaf, although it is better to do Sa`i straight after Tawaf.

The jurists agree that shaving the entire head is preferable to cutting the hair during Hajj or ‘umrah. But they differed as to the minimum amount that is acceptable in shaving the head and cutting the hair.

There are different types of tawaf: 1- tawaf al-ifadah; 2- tawaf al-qudum; 3- tawaf of ‘Umrah; 4-tawaf al-wada’; 5- tawaf in fulfillment of a vow; and 6: voluntary tawaf.

1. It is not permissible for the pilgrim in Ihram to wear what covers the entire foot, plus the ankles such as the Khuff, boots that cover the ankle, army boots, and so on.
2. There is nothing wrong with wearing the sandal which is the same size as the sole of the foot, but leaves the top of the feet, the heels and the ankles uncovered.
3. If the shoe does not cover the ankles, but it covers the rest of the foot, such as the toes, the top of the foot and the heel, then there is a difference of scholarly opinion as to whether it may be worn in Ihram, because of the difference of opinion as to whether it resembles the Khuff or sandal.

The one who is doing Tamattu` has to do two sets of Tawaf and Sa`i; one for `Umrah and one for Hajj. This is the view of the majority of scholars, including Malik, Ash-Shafi`i, and Ahmad, according to the most correct of the reports narrated from him.
