Praying the janazah (funeral) prayer is permissible for both men and women. But women should not follow the funeral procession to the graveyard. Also women are not allowed to visit graves.

The one who prays the funeral prayer will have one Qirat (a huge mountain) of reward, and the one who accompanies the funeral procession to the burial will have two Qirats. There is no specific reward for washing the deceased. For the one who seeks reward by preparing the body we hope that there will be even more reward.
