1- With the general meaning of the word “Islam” in mind, it is correct to say that there was a religion called Islam before Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was sent. 2- With regard to Islam in a specific sense, this is the religion with which Allah sent His Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). So, it is not correct to say that there was a religion called Islam before the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was sent.

Our need for religion is greater than our need for any of the other necessities of life. We need to know what pleases Allah and what angers Him. We need to act in our own interests and to ward off things that will harm us.
